Plan an outdoor day with room to change your mind

Check the route, the conditions and the practical details before setting out.

An enjoyable outing often starts with a plan that can get smaller. Choose a route with an easy turnaround and an alternative if the weather or conditions do not suit your group. You do not have to make a full day of it.

Find the current source

North Grenville’s 2025–2026 visitor guide describes outdoor places including Ferguson Forest and Riverside Park. A visitor guide is a useful starting point, but seasonal facilities and trail conditions need a current check with the relevant operator.

Match the outing to the group

Consider the surface, distance, accessible facilities and places to rest. If you are bringing a dog or a bicycle, check the rules for that particular route. A place being described as a trail does not tell you whether it suits every activity.

Keep the practical list short

Know your start point, how you will get back, what conditions you expect and where to find updates. Bring what your group needs, and turn back if the route is not suitable.

We have not field-tested a route for this article. Use official information and your own assessment on the day, rather than treating a general guide as a condition report.
